Dickie, the owner of Dan Café has passed away (February 24, 1934 – February 21, 2025) and the service is Saturday).”
In March 2024, Barred in DC noted:
“The elderly guy who sits at the back corner behind the bar at Dan’s Cafe many nights – Clinnie “Dickie” Dickens (the owner, no he’s not Dan) turned 90 years old late last month.”
Rest in Peace.
I expect Dan’s to remain open with his sons continuing to run the legendary bar. Please share your favorite Dickie/Dan’s memories below.

“As one of Dan’s “regulars” for the entire decade starting in 1989, i have continued to pop in throughout the years just to give Dickie a nod. Without fail, he was eager to hear updates on all of our posse from those days. Often times he knew more than I did about folks whereabouts. RIP, Sir.”
