From a press release:
“Slice & Pie, named the second-best slice shop in the United States by prestigious Italian organization 50Top Pizza for the second consecutive year, is set to open its second location on Wednesday, September 17 in the food hall at Union Market. The new location will offer the complete menu from Slice & Pie’s flagship location on 14th Street, including whole pies and slices of Roman-born master pizzaiolo Giulio Adriani’s New York and Detroit-style pizzas. Earlier this month in Naples, Italy, Slice & Pie was named the 83rd best pizzeria in the world, and the new location will open alongside Taste of Lucy, an offshoot of Adriani’s cocktail bar and restaurant, Lucy. Both concepts will be separated by a wall spanning the 800 square foot space, with Slice & Pie featured on the left and Taste of Lucy on the right. Taste of Lucy will open in Union Market on Friday, September 19.
Adriani launched the original Slice & Pie and Lucy locations in 2022, bringing his pizza expertise to the nation’s capital for the first time. Since arriving, Adriani has landed in the Top 50 best list of best US-based pizzerias for three consecutive years, including the number two spot in the slice shop category in both 2024 and 2025. Adriani’s profound commitment to authenticity and quality is omnipresent at both concepts, which feature fresh and house-made ingredients.
“I am thrilled to bring Slice & Pie and Taste of Lucy to Union Market,” said Adriani. “I love the bustle of food halls, and to join the thralls of the Union Market space is an exciting new venture. My passion has always been making pizza, and I can’t wait to continue to do so in such a vibrant location.”
Guests can look forward to the Burrata Pie made with California tomato sauce, mozzarella, fresh burrata, and parmesan and the Detroit-Style Hot Honey topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, provolone, hot honey, and “cup and char” pepperoni. Appetizers such as meatballs and garlic knots will be available alongside meatball and Italian sandwiches.
In the same space, Taste of Lucy will offer a more traditional Italian menu with rotating pastas, Neapolitan pizzas, small plates, cocktails, and desserts. Guests can expect reimagined small plates like Bruschetta and Meatballs, and pastas such as the Stanley Tucci-inspired Fettucine Nerano made with zucchini, mint, basil, and pecorino. On Sundays, the 20-seat space will host a traditional Aperitivo Hour, where market goers can leisurely enjoy a rotating selection of Italian snacks such as Adriani’s famous fried pizza, the Montanara. Aperitivo Hour will also be available at Lucy’s original location on 14th Street. The cocktail bar will also offer a daily Happy Hour menu from 5pm until 7pm.
Slice & Pie and Taste of Lucy are located at 1309 5th St. NE, Washington, DC 20002. Slice & Pie and Taste of Lucy will operate Monday through Saturday from 11am to 9pm and Sundays from 11am to 8pm.”
