The other day I was thinking to myself, I wish there were a way to penalize improper parking for rental e-bikes and scooters. Welp, turns out there is, and I just found my new hobby!
Illegally parked e-bikes and scooters are an annoyance for pedestrians, and for those using wheelchairs and others with mobility issues, I’m sure it’s a huge pain in the ass, and extremely inconsiderate.
Can we start something, PoPville friends? Once a week (or as often as you want if you’re ambitious), report an improperly parked vehicle. The user can get fined. Maybe if it happens a few times, people start to change behavior? (I know, I know, I can hope…)
How to do it:
You have to have the apps, here are instructions:
Lime: In the main menu, go to “Help,” then select “Improper or illegal parking.” Scan the vehicle QR code, take a picture, add a comment and submit.
Veo (honestly a terrible process but here it is): In the main menu, go to “Help,” then select “Ride troubleshooting,” then hit the 3-line menu bar in the top right and select “Submit a request.” then scroll down to “a vehicle is parked where it doesn’t belong.”
Capital bikeshare (less common issues since they have docks, but still): In the main menu, go to “Help,” then under “Report an issue” select “Report another issue,” then from the drop down list, choose “Bad parking.”
